You’re Not Lazy: Understanding Task Paralysis

Staring at a simple task and being unable to begin is exhausting, and it’s easy to read it as a character flaw. It isn’t. Many people experience it, especially when they’re stressed or carrying a lot.

Three gentle ways through

Shrink it: name the smallest possible first step, like opening the document or finding the form.

Time-box it: tell yourself you’ll do five minutes and you’re allowed to stop.

Body-double it: do the task near another person, in person or on a video call.

If this is a constant struggle, it’s worth talking to a doctor or therapist. This article is general information, not medical advice.
